The dress consists of a built in silk slip, trimmed in lace, and the incredible overdress of silk crepe chiffon. The color - so bold, so vibrant! It is close to Schiaparelli's Shocking Pink, but a bit deeper, and slightly more coral. Clusters of rhinestones sparkle on the bodice. The dress is sleeveless, with a waist that is only very slightly dropped. At one time, it was more dropped and less fitted, but examining the interior, one can see that waist was brought up, and the ruched waistband was pulled together at the left side, and secured with the velvet flower, which is worn with a pin at the top petal to support the weight of the flower.
The skirt is three layers - the slip, a layer of crepe chiffon, and a second, tier-tiered layer of the chiffon, with a strips of beading and rhinestones running down the front, back and sides of the gown. There are nearly 200 rhinestones on the skirt alone. The dress is not perfect - see condition comments - but it so incredible that it is more than worth the time to have the flaws restored. It can VERY VERY carefully worn as-is, but for longevity, some care will be needed.
Length: 40" and 46" (shortest and longest points of the handkerchief hem.)
Condition: Fair, repairable condition.
This incredible dress looks simply fantastic on, but has some flaws. As stated, it has been altered from a style that was perhaps a decade older than its current incarnation. On the interior, there is hand stitching, and some raw chiffon with rhinestone clusters (these will come in handy.) There is a total of three missing rhinestones in the long beaded stripes on the skirt. The hand finish has frayed at the edge of the front beaded stripe. On the bodice, the slip is missing a couple of snaps to secure the closure. At the back of the bodice is the most notable damage, and the area that I feel ought to be repaired prior to wear. All five of the rhinestone clusters to the left side of the garment are now atop holes, with rhinestones missing. Each cluster is supposed to have six stones - two clusters have two each, and the other three have five. The holes are sizeable, taking the full area of the clusters, plus a bit, but the chiffon can be replaced, as well as the missing rhinestones - one can take the chiffon from an area of altered length in the crepe chiffon underskirt, and there are enough rhinestones left inside the waistband from the alteration to replace the missing stones.
There are a few smaller pinholes in the center back, and two spots with slightly larger (pencil erasure) sized holes, that are not near rhinestone clusters.
There are holes from missing rhinestones all along the neckline - this could also be backed with chiffon and the rhinestones replaced, or lived with as-is, since it is, at least, uniform. There are a few holes in the ruched waistband from pins or alteration but these don't affect the integrity of the garment or make any impact on the appearance.
Please do inquire about close-ups of the flaws prior to your purchase if you are concerned. I am happy to provide them!
