The bowl was carved from a tree trunk and still has the bark on the outer sides. There is a built in holder for the HMQ nut cracker and picks. Most of these nut bowls were made by "Ellwood Rusticware", but there are no markings on this one that indicate it was made by them. The bottom has a beige felt piece on it.
The nut cracker and picks were made of nickel plated, solid steel in the USA by HMQ. "Henry M Quackenbush invented the spring-jointed nutcracker in 1913 and received a patent for his innovative product. It was made from the highest quality, machined steel and then nickel plated."
The man I purchased this from says he remembers his parents using this bowl when he was a young child - in the 1950s.
I found no major flaws - cracks or bark peeling - on the bowl.
The bowl measures 7 1/2 inches across.
