Gorgeous early ORIGINAL early Victorian or Late Georgian era 6-strand bracelet. Six strands of gold plate with one of the most stunning bracelet clasps that I have ever seen. Gorgeous cannetille work with large amethyst paste center stone surrounded by four cut steel "flowers" and eight smaller amethyst paste stones.Cannetille is a close relative of filigree work. It typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1820's and 1830's. Motifs included tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider-like rosette ornaments. Jewelry featuring cannetille was often embellished with granulation and thinly stamped metals.. Colorful gemstones tend to embellish the pieces: Brazilian aquamarine, pink topaz, amethyst, and chrysoberyl. I would date this bracelet from that period - 1820 - 1840.
Has a slide clasp which secures well. Overall condition is very good - some loss of gold plating to the bracelet strands.
Clasp measures 1 3/4" high and 1 1/4" wide. Six strand bracelet measures 5 1/2" long. Fts my wrist very comfortably, and my wrist is 6" in diameter.
