Aquamarine, named for the Latin phrase "water of the sea", its color ranges from blue to green. Where there is little organic production as in the tropical seas, the water appears blue. Further north, blue-green, the coastal waters are generally greenish, and green in the polar regions.
When aquamarine is blue and clear, its color is generally pale. Usually it takes some size for the color to reach a darker shade.
With Emerald gemstone, Aquamarine is the most famous variety of the mineral beryl. The good hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale makes aquamarine suitable for all kinds of jewelry.
Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March.
