The pattern on this lamp is inspired by the simplicity of Ray Eames' and Lucienne Day's mid-century design work. I use random sticks from a dead tree (really) and ink to draw the satellites, scans of tea paper (just paper soaked in tea) and then manipulate those in the machine to create depth. The texture in the tea paper is increased in this version – it looks like lava from an old National Geographic.
It comes with a 60 watt bulb which looks great through the red. You may use a lower wattage bulb for more intimate settings. The lamp is 16" tall and 4" in diameter.
The base is hand-painted red oak. The ball feet are maple. The legs are steel. The shade is made of polyethylene.
