Vintage nautical beer stein with a sailing ship flying a flag with the U.S. Navy rallying cry: "Don't give up the ship!" The phrase originated from the famous last words of James Lawrence, the captain of the USS Chesapeake. The USS Chesapeake was overrun by a British ship during the War of 1812 and as Captain Lawrence laying dying from a gunshot wound, he gave his last orders - "Tell the men to fire faster and not give up the ship. Fight her till she sinks!"

This heavy earthenware stein would make the perfect gift for the sailor in your life or anyone who could use a reminder to never give up. The mug has an illustration of a ship in blue-green on both sides, set on a taupe or putty base color and olive green stripes at the rim and base. The handle has interesting design details at the top and the glaze has a satin finish.

The beer stein measures 5.5" tall and 3.25" across the rim. It is in excellent vintage condition without any chips, cracks, crazing or notable wear. The stein appears to have only been used for display.
