I used a variation of chevron netting in two shades of soft turquoise, to mimic the look of blue faience tubes from the original necklace. The two rows of beadwork are accentuated by a border of golden beige at the top and bottom, creating three rows of horizontal stripes across the length of the collar. I have finished the necklace with a beaded button and loop clasp in matching colors.
Dimensions: The necklace is 2.8 cm (1.1 inches) wide, and 50.5 cm (19.9 inches) long, including the clasp. When the clasp is secured, the collar has an inside circumference of 44 cm (17.3 inches). The beaded button measures 1.7 cm (0.7 inches) across.
The combination of light and dark turquoise is really enhanced by the creamy beige border. Although this necklace isn’t as blue as Wah’s, it still has a distinct Egyptian feel. This style of necklace looks best when worn with strapless or spaghetti strap tops, but can also be worn under a jacket or blouse.
The entire collar is woven with high quality Japanese glass seed beads, and durable fused nylon thread. The beadwork is incredibly strong, but flexible enough to provide a collar with beautiful drape. Like the design, but want a different color scheme? I’m always happy to create custom designs upon request.
This one of a kind design comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
