Andy Warhol first did this painting for the Art Expo in Denmark in 1986. It was based off of an H.C. Andersen papercut (whose signature is on the left side), making this latch hook rug the third art form of this same image. First the papercut in the 1800's, then the painting by Andy Warhol, and now this beautiful piece of touchable art.
Measures approx 32" wide by 34 1/2" tall.
The attention to detail is fascinating - compare to Andy Warhol's print here:
I believe the yarn is wool - it is compact and firm, not fluffy and shaggy. As you can see in the final photo, the back is flawless and the piece is well done. As seen in the 2nd photo, there is a spot of discoloration to the left of the "A" in Andy's first name. I haven't touched it and it probably would come out easily. There is one other tiny spot of discoloration on the bottom right (very bottom edge, hard to see in first photo) that would probably also come out (haven't tried).
This piece is a collector's item that would be great for any Hans Christian Andersen fans, Andy Warhol fans, papercut fans, latch hook fans, or art collectors in general.
And in case you're wondering, it doesn't smell. Yay!
