Each piece is "planted" in a tiny planter. Pawns are mounted in "soil" with paper pebbles. The major pieces have lush foliage and are planted in slightly larger planters. The color of the planters is a faux teak. Colors on one side are blue and white, the other are red and black.
This set was made by Benjamin John Coleman, author, and creator of the Origami Bonsai art form. The kings are signed and dated by Coleman. Each king stands 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) tall.
This chess set is made from 100% recycled paper. The flowers and foliage are made from hand painted squares of paper which were folded using the origami technique. The stems, planters, and mushrooms are made from newspaper using the makigami technique. Tiny pebbles were made with crushed newspaper.
This set is desgned for use with a chess board that has two inch (5 cm) squares. The board is not included in the price of the chess set. Please contact me for a price on the board.
