Eye catching and cheerful plate has a diameter of 16.5'' (42 cm) and weighs 2.1 pound (975 gr).
Here we have yet another unique Turkish folk art object coming from the eastern Anatolian town of Erzincan. What is really nice about these master craftsman's works is that their work always has a personal touch and no two pieces are alike. Unlike contemporary pieces, they have plenty of flaws in symmetry and pattern, thanks to which the artwork never gets boring to look at.
The edges are raised for approx 2/3'' (1.5 - 2 cm). Rim is quite wavy and disfigured. I believe this problem could be corrected by gently hammering with a wooden hammer (a metal hammer would damage enamel and chip the tray). Five photos were merely enough to show the two sides, I can provide more photos from sides to demonstrate this issue.
The dark brown color is enamel coating. It has been chipped at some spots to reveal a lighter shade of brown. The metal displays some tarnish and discoloration, particularly on the back side. That side has a few surface scratches and 3-4 dark spots with a little patina. The tray has no tears, splits or cracks. The hole mentioned before is 1/5'' wide across (4-5mm). Back side needs a cleaning and would benefit from polishing.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I can gladly upload or send you photos from different angles if you like.
