This is my interpretation of The Star Of Bethlehem, a Christmas wall quilt. You may know this quilt pattern as a Lone Star.
Star patterns were one of the most popular designs among American quilters during the 1930's. This quilt block pattern originally appeared during the 1850's, coming to the US via our English quilting friends. Virginia Star, Morning Star, Rising Star, and Star of the East are a few of the many names given to this quilt pattern.
I've used a red and green seasonal holiday cotton fabric print with a green vine themed cotton fabric print for the large pieced 8 pointed star. The star is pieced to a dark green tonal cotton fabric background that frames the design. A pieced piano styled keyboard border in red and green cottons accents the block. There is a second border using the dark green background's fabric, and a final border using the red and green seasonal holiday cotton fabric print that is featured in the star. The quilt's edge is finished with a double fold bias binding that was made from the same red used in the piano keyboard border.
I have custom longarm quilted this quilt with ditching, twists, and holly berries and vines using a green variegated thread.
This quilt measures 57 inches by 57 inches. All of the fabric and the batting is cotton, so this quilt is washable in cold water by hand or machine on the gentle cycle. A hanging sleeve has been attached to the back, so that you may hang it, as this One of A Kind Quilt looks as great on the wall as it does over bed.
Whether you are a collector, or If you are just looking for that unique gift , this modern reproduction quilt is full of artistry, color and history. Many hours went into the design, construction and quilting of this Star of Bethlehem reproduction.
