This rare, First Edition, First printing, antique Better Homes and Gardens cookbook features more than 1,000 time tested recipes for appetizers, breads, desserts, canning, casseroles, meats, and much much more. This book also contains more than 50 vintage illustrations and photographs indicative of the time, and hundreds of age old hints and tips. The cookbook has a 5 ring binding allowing for easy page removal and measures 8 ½ by 10 inches, approx. 2 inches deep.
This book is in used, but good condition considering it's age. Included in this listing is the original vinyl dust cover that came with the book, which I haven't seen any other listing provide. The vinyl cover is pretty worn, but it has did it's job, because the spine and the cover of the book are in excellent condition. The fraying that you see in the photos is the vinyl cover, not the book itself, as it's in excellent, sturdy condition. The cover is clean and bright, the corners are sturdy, and not at all frayed like many books of this age. The interior pages have very little food stains and are are free from any markings, with the exception of a dedication written in pen on the inside cover. The pages have turned yellow with time, and are fragile. Flipping through I have encountered 4 pages that have pulled away from the binder, but they do all appear to be there. Tucked away in the book are a few 50+ year old newspaper recipes, along with a few pieces of scrap paper placed in by the original owner and forgotten about over time.
I've scoured the internet for a few months now, and have yet to encounter another 1953 Better Homes and Gardens, First Edition, and First Printing book. I've found many 4th, 5th, and 8th printings, but not another 1st, so don't let this opportunity to own a rare piece of culinary history pass you by.
