A beautiful chromolithograph of frogs from a volume of Brehm's "Life of Animals" originally published in Germany. This is the Spanish translation and it was published in Barcelona, Spain in 1883. The title reads "Grupo de anuros" (group of anura in English).
This joyful antique lithographic print would be extraordinary for a child's room decor. It would also be a perfect gift for someone interested in zoology or natural history as it was published in a reference book, which made its author, Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829–1884), known around the world.
Frogs are amphibians in the order Anura. Most frogs are characterized by a short body, webbed digits (fingers or toes), protruding eyes, bifid tongue and the absence of a tail. Frogs are widely known as exceptional jumpers, and many of the anatomical characteristics of frogs, particularly their long, powerful legs, are adaptations to improve jumping performance. Due to their permeable skin, frogs are often semi-aquatic or inhabit humid areas, but move easily on land.
Size of the plate: 12.5" by 8.8"
