In the style of my goddess sculptures, I have made a chess set. I am a local San Francisco ceramic artist who has been creating ceramic pieces for 20 years. My work sells in galleries around the country. Each piece is individually made. No molds.
The pieces range approximately 6 inches high and 1 1/2 wide at the base for the tallest pieces to approximately 2 1/2 inches high and 1 1/8 inch wide for the pawns. The light green pieces are made with porcelain and the dark turquoise pieces with a dark stoneware clay. The porcelain is glazed in two different layered glazes, a sea foam and a spring green, so that it appears a soft bright green with hints of blue/green. The dark stoneware clay is glazed in a glossy dark turquoise color. The dark clay underneath give the glaze a richness and depth. Each piece has its own individual personality and differs slightly from all the others. Even as the Pawns are all shaped the same way they still are slightly different in shape width and coloring, giving each piece an individual feel. The set does not come with the huge 20" x 20" glass chess board it is pictured on and would probably be suited for a smaller board. As you can see in the pictures I have moved them closer together for photographing.
Additional note for potters - The set has been fired to a cone 5 temperature (which is approx. 2167 degrees).
