The sculpture was hand carved out of lindenwood, what is also know as bass wood. Since Bass wood rarely ever has a grain pattern to it, the wings were painted the colors of the Osprey bird. Most of the time and effort were put into carving the feathers and the shape of the bird as compared to the painting of it because it required so much time to create it.
Where some models or sculptures are poured with resin or hot metal and casted, this was hand fashioned and there is no model duplicate of this piece that can be reproduced.
The Osprey has a width from wing to wing of 19", a height from top to bottom of 15 1/2" and a length from head to tail of about 9". The bird stand is a granite rock with a hand carved fish laying on it. The Osprey has a post that goes into the rock where it can be removed from the stand to make it easier to transport.
This sculpture was made by my father, Tom Osborne.
