This natural New York Herkimer diamond and sterling silver engagement ring with matching wedding band are made with a combination of techniques. Despite their diamond misnomer, herkimers are actually six-sided, double-terminated quartz crystals and are relatively valueless. Nevertheless, unscrupulous jewelers during the civil war often tried to pass off these stones as the more precious variety. I love the natural characteristics and facets of these impressively sized stones masquerade as diamonds in my version of the classic "solitaire" engagement ring setting. The natural faceted Herkimer diamond is set in a handmade prong setting. And the sterling silver bands are handforged with a tree bark texture to symbolize eternal love and nurturing. These techniques create a unique look for each ring.
