La Sainte-Chapelle (The Holy Chapel) is the only surviving building of the Capetian royal palace on the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, France. The Sainte-Chapelle, built in the 13th century is considered among the highest achievements of the Rayonnant period of Gothic architecture.
The chapel was heavily damaged during the French revolution and restored in the 19th century. This beautiful color lithograph shows restoration work by French architect Felix Duban. Note that works were finished in 1855 and this plate was published in 1856 in a monthly architectural journal, in Paris. The computer screen does not really show the beauty of its colors. The parts that are litographed in gold are rich and deep.
In great condition. Paper is heavy weight and excellent quality. The plate is spotless.
