I began creating these dainty earrings by cutting, filing, sanding and cleaning the copper. A fine layer of colored glass powder was then sifted onto the piece, and I used a hand torch to melt and fuse it to the metal. These two steps were repeated many times until I achieved the final look. Then, a final sanding and cleaning. The back of the earrings is raw copper that has been touched by the flame. Some fire marks remain. I love the earthy feel of the metal. It is gradually oxidizing to a soft brown.
Because it is made of copper and glass, the piece should be treated gently.
The size of these earrings is a dainty 5/16" x 14/16". The colors are yellow and purple. The ear wires are sterling silver.
