Fausse Montre, translates from French to mean false watch. It was trendy to appear to be wearing two watches. These pieces were an affordable option to a second watch. They were mostly worn on one end of a chain, with a real pocket watch on the other end.
This is NOT a locket and DOES NOT OPEN. It is not hollow, so it has a great heavy weight to it.
It appears to be gold filled, but it is not marked.
Dates to around 1860-70
It is in excellent condition. There is a slight scuff on the back but the plating is in overall excellent condition.
About 1 1/4" in length. Comes with a 24" gold filled chain.
