The name of this quilt is "Softly the evening came", lifted from a work by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
"Softly the evening came. The sun from the horizon
Like a magician extended his golden wand o’er the landscape;
Twinkling vapors arose; and sky and earth and forest
Seemed all on fire at the touch and melted and mingled together."
This quilt was completely designed and made by me. Hand cut, machine pieced, machine quilted. The binding is sewn by machine to the front and finished with a hidden stitch (hand sewn) around the back. The quilting style was chosen to complement the illusion of the waves on the quilt by following the diagonal lines of the colors. This one-of-a-kind quilt is signed and dated, along with the title of the quilt, on a hand-embroidered patch on a back corner.
All the fabric I use is pre-washed so no uneven shrinkage of the fabric occurs on washing, and so that the rich colors won't run. All fabric and thread is 100% cotton, and the batting is 100% cotton Warm and Natural. The batting will shrink up to 3% after the first wash, but will give the quilt a nice old-fashioned, slightly pillowed look.
Each junction of more than 2 pieces of fabric (the corners of all the blocks) are double-stitched to guard against fraying. This quilt is made to last!
Made in a smoke-free environment.
Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Lay flat or hang to dry, or machine dry low heat.
