This is an E-book with instructions on how to drape and sew a 1920s evening dress WITHOUT USING A PAPER PATTERN! The instructions are quite easy and will make sense to an intermediate or above sewing enthusiast. Instructions include how to make the dress to your exact measurements.
From the original source material:
“An evening ensemble created by a Parisian designer and modified to suit the needs of the American woman, is particularly desirable when it can be easily made by the wearer herself, following the method of draping that is employed for the gown opposite. The cape also is easily developed for it resembles the foundation pattern closely.
A delightful pastel harmony is presented in the lavender velvet evening cape (cover illustration) with its lining of turquoise blue satin. The flattering collar is of blonde fox, attached to the youthful rounded yoke, which receives the fulness of the cape.
Completing the ensemble designed in Paris by Callot Soeurs, the draped gown is of turquoise blue satin and cream lace threaded with fine gold filaments. The fulness is caught at the left hip with an ornament of pearls, brilliants, and crystals."
The dress from 1927 requires a simple straight-line slip as the base to drape the dress on. I have included free easy slip-making instructions to go along with this.
Please note that we have included the original illustration and instructions for the cape that was illustrated with the evening gown. However, they are VERY VAGUE and we do not recommend buying this pattern just for the cape, as you will be disappointed. If you wish to add a cape for this ensemble, we recommend this pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/162884831
SIZING: Since this pattern is draped, it can be made for a figure of any size!
Don't have a printer? A paper version of this pattern is also available here:

You will be able to sew a complete dress using this E-booklet, no printing required!
The flapper draped dress is slimming and very flattering. They also make the most comfortable slips and negligees when sewn from soft jersey or silk.
Fabric requirements:
Please see photos.
Pattern type: Patternless Draping.
The Patternless-Draping type of pattern will start by using your exact measurements for an accurate fit (which means that these can be made in nearly any size), but the measured fabric will be draped on either yourself or a dress form (an extra pair of hands at this stage will be really helpful), and then pinned, cut, and sewn.
We also have patterns for everything you might wish to wear underneath this dress.
INCLUDED FREE!
Included with your digital pattern is a free 53-page dressmaking lesson e-book. Pre 1940s sewing pattern instructions were often vague and assumed the seamstress was already knowledgeable or had access to useful sewing books. If you're new to sewing with vintage or reproduction patterns, this e-book includes historical dressmaking lessons that will help fill in any knowledge gaps!
Printing a PDF is easy. Just open, hit print, and make sure that your printer scale is set to 100% (this should be the default setting in most cases). This booklet is formatted to print to both U.S. Letter and A4 sized paper.
