I found a drawing of this beautiful animal in a 19th. century natural history book. The original was black and white and very detailed (as most 19th. century nature illustrations). I digitally enhanced the image and gave it new life with a bright color.
The turtle has an elongated carapace that tapers posteriorly and has 5 pairs of costals, 11 pairs of marginal and 5 vertebrates. In adults, the carapace in dorsal view is heart-shaped. Head large; broad and subtriangular.
Her massive jaws are adapted to crushing hard shell prey.
The color of the shell is reddish brown above and dull brown beneath.
Size: 15" by 10.5" including a margin of 0.5"
