Fabulous antique beaver fur top hat circa approximately 1870. Hat is approximately 7.25" tall and has a circumference of about 21", brim is 1.5" wide. By designer St. Caudens (Paris). Beaver fur with grosgrain ribbon trim, grosgrain binding at brim edge, leather interior on brim, and silk lining at inside top.

Hat is in good vintage condition. The fur is in really good condition. The edge of the grosgrain ribbon on the trim is frayed a bit and the hat has a few small dents. I think if given enough time on a hat shaper, most of these would probably come out.

I'm also including an old photograph of the hat's original owner (John Vandemoer). I purchased the hat at one of his descendants' estate sale. The hat in the photo may be this hat, I'm not quite sure. The photo is dated 1870. The photo measures 2.5" x 4" and was taken by J. Kirk Phtographer, Newark, New Jersey.
