Antique Victorian Cranberry Glass Sugar Shaker. This is is a stunning and wonderful antique cranberry paneled glass sugar shaker or muffineer with silver plated pierced top, circa 1890.
This was a standard item that was used on the table during the Victorian era. The cranberry colored shaker has ten panels that go from the bottom to the top of the shaker which rises to a recessed neck covered with a metal rim. A pull off top or lid with a central finial fits right on the metal rim. The top has star shaped holes and is marked EPNS which stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver.
It stands 6 1/2" tall with lid, 2 3/4" wide base, mouth opening 1" 5 5/8" tall. This lovely shaker is in Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks. The metal lid does not have any breaks.The top has no dents or dings and screws on and off easily. The opening under the top has slight wear commensurate with the pushing down of the lid on it. An outstanding example of Victorian elegance!

Popular during the Victorian era, muffineers (also called sugar casters or sugar shakers) were a regular part of a well-set table. The muffineer would be filled with super fine "caster sugar," for sprinkling over any food in need of sweetening.
Truly a beautiful and very rare antique, which is difficult to come by. The piece is all original and looks gorgeous!
