After months of research, inspiration, and incubation, I have finally added a 1920's Flapper Wedding Cloche to this summer's collection of hand blocked sinamay hats. The style, also known as a Pamela, originated in France during the later part of the 1770's, and evolved into many incarnations through the 1930's. It's popuarity continues to this day, in the form of mostly straw hats. This version, makes use of crinoline, known in it's heyday as horsehair, which is now made of a synthetic nylon fiber, and is finely woven into a strip of bias (diagonal stretch). After hand blocking the crown, and steam forming the brim, the crinoline is sewn on by hand, extending the width of the brim, and creating a veiling effect over the eyes, in place of a traditional veil. On four points of the brim, are hand applique'd pieces of vintage Battenburg lace, and a beautiful double row of antique lace for the hatband. A lusterous row of vintage faux pearls, has been hand sewn in the center of the hatband, while my own hand sculpted silk organza rose sits on a bed of white Russian veiling, with a sensuous cascade of delicate white ostrich fronds, to finish the look. Please note, that there are several subtle hues of white to candlelight in this piece, and will top off nicely, any shade of dress you choose. Fully lined in Italian silk dupioni. Just perfect for saying "I do" in, and looking absolutely beautiful on your very special day!!
A one of a kind piece, of fine heirloom quality millinery.
Fits heads to measure 21 1/2 to 22", comfortably.
NOTE: The large size of the box we ship in, is necessary to protect this very fragile hat from damage in shipping. It must come USPSPriority, to minimize handling. It is the size of the box, and packing that is costly. We do apologise, but have not found any other way to ship these fragile hats less expensively, without sacrificing their safe delivery.
