"When I was quite young, my parents took a house in Provence for the summer holidays. At the foot of the garden stood a small stone building with lovely blue shutters. My father paid two young men to clean it out. My mother sewed curtains of old white linen. I solemnly carried out my favorite baby doll and the new books my father had purchased in the town. No, he said we read only in French this summer. A local cat moved in and soon another, with her kitten following. I was enchanted. And that summer WAS magic. And then, when the fall came, it was over and we returned home. And then the war came, and I grew up. But the Wendy House at the foot of that precise garden, there in Provence in 1934, lives in that place where I am ever young, ever enchanted, where the smell of lavender pervades the air, and I can hear the sea in the sea shells I once placed in the little windows. And all who are now gone, are there still. And I am happy." Miss Madeline Rose Johnston, July, 2012
This little dollhouse is a perfect size for your desk or bookcase. This tiny bit of Provence measures approximately 6" x 6" on an 8" x 8" hardwood felt covered base. Constructed of individually hand cast stone bricks of ground alabaster, the charming Vignette is constructed brick by brick and then is carefully hand painted in layer upon layer of translucent artist acrylic paints, mediums and acrylic inks. Our petite dollhouse is lightly landscaped with charmingly natural dried flowers and mosses. It is fully enclosed with removable front wall and removable roof. Thispetite sweetie is made with all of the loving devotion we pour into our larger dollhouses. This little one is truly a labor of unconditional love.
The vignette includes our spunky 3 inch antique Frozen Charlotte porcelain doll, Madeline Rose, who has been lightly restored and dressed in vintage linen middy outfit, navy sweater, white cotton undies and socks and her own brown leather shoes. The vintage doll bed and baby, assorted cats and all accessories and hand made aged children's furniture, little dishes, vintage copper, tiny sea shells, French ephemera and Turkish rug as shown are included. And natural lavender as well. After all, this is Provence.
The individual building blocks for this structure were hand cast by the artists from ground alabaster and are used under licensing agreement with Hirst Arts Fantasy Architecture Inc. This is a heavy structure. No builders foam, egg cartons or foam core was used in its construction.
