Broad bodied chasers are one of the first dragonflies to colonise new ponds, and are easy to recognise given their flattened abdomen. The males have a blue abdomen, whereas females are golden brown. They can grow to just under five centimetres long.
This one is approximately twice that size, measuring 10cm from head to the end of the abdomen. The wingspan is around nine centimetres.
