During the WWII era, Trifari joined with other jewelry companies in using sterling silver to produce their high end costume jewelry pieces as other metals were needed for the war effort. This brooch is made in silvertone metal and is not sterling, which would date it to very early 1940s, just pre-war.
The plane measures 1 3/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches across the wings. The marking on the bottom is the Crown Trifari mark with the larger elaborate crown over the letter T. The clasp works smoothly and stays snugly closed.
This is a vintage piece of costume jewelry - in the age range of 70+ years old. It shows gentle signs of loving wear. We have found 3 very small rhinestones missing: One on the wing between the engine and the body. One on the body next to a rear window. The final one is on the tail above the green baguette.
