Every once in a while I get the urge to make something that could be described as wild and crazy…this would be one of those times.
The design and metal work: I began with two cut sections of copper sheet –one for the cuff and one that I cut into an irregular shape for the bezel. I heated (annealed) the cuff section and hammered it to give it texture. The bezel portion was hand sanded to a smooth finish and etched with my hand drawn pattern. Once the etching was completed, I soldered the piece to the cuff. The cuff was then formed into oval, hammered again on the top and bottom to give it a wavy rustic shape and polished. For added interest, I selectively applied a heat patina to both the cuff and the bezel which added to the rustic look of the design. A large piece of polished agate (reminds me of a cat eye) was rustically and securely set into the bezel section by using the fold formed technique. As a finishing touch, I applied a light coating of Renaissance Wax to the cuff in its entirety to protect the patina and the wearer.
“Wild Cat Eye”…Rustic and bold and awesome looking on the wrist! Wild though it may be, it really is very comfortable to wear (the bezel sets above the arm and wrist- so nothing other than the cuff comes in contact with your skin).
The setting Bracelet Measurements:
“Wild Cat Eye” is oval but slightly irregular in shape and measures 2 1/2” in diameter. The cuff portion is 1“wide (tall). The diagonally set agate focal (including the copper setting) is approximately 1 1/4” tall by 3” long. The bracelet will comfortably fit a wrist 6 1/4 - 6 ¾ inches. The cuff is sturdy but flexible and can be adjusted to fit your wrist as you like.
I love creating one-of-a-kind adornments rich in design, texture and color. All items are created with special care and attention to detail using sometimes rare or unusual, but always high quality materials and components.
