Ethiopian Telsum Beads: These antique coin silver pendants are known as telsum and, although they are ancient designs, they were made between the 17th and 18th centuries. Granulated (covered in tiny silver balls), plain or sometimes worn smooth, they were fashioned into shapes of triangles and half circles to protect the wearer against the evil eye and power of the crescent moon respectively. The Telsum beads in this necklace are half circles.
