Autumn is approaching fast and as I work putting my garden to bed, I have started making my folk art primitive pumpkins pillows again. This small primitive folk art fabric art pumpkin pillow was created for the person that wants to add to their country and primitive decor with a one of a kind handcrafted item. Made with parts of a repurposed vintage handquilted quilt and orange fabric prints of new cotton fabric, the pumpkin trio on this pillow celebrates a primitive autumn harvest and Halloween or Thanksgiving. This is my own pattern and design and measures about 7 inches by about 4 inches. The pumpkins were cut free hand by me and then handsewed using a very primitive applique blanket stitch onto a background made out of a vintage handquilted quilt and then accented with handstitched embroidery thread. I used green embroidery thread to handstitch grass beneath the pumpkins. They all have twine stems. The quilt piece has been freshly laundered but still retains the look of tea staining due to the natural aging of the fabric but has not been tea stained. You can still see some of the old vintage handquilting across this pillow. The pillow is backed with a plain osnaberg fabric and closed across the back with a primitive cross stitch and lightly stuffed with polyfill. This item comes from my smoke free home.
