Hopf Violin Antique German Instrument Salvaged Assemblage Art

Beyond repair this antique violin was discovered in our farmhouse attic. The violin is stamped HOPT on the back. The Hopt name can be traced back to German violin making in the 1700s.

Our violin is most likely from the early 1900s. It was well used with some repairs and probably parts were taken from it to use on other violins. There are many pieces missing from the violin including the strings, the pegs, top block, bridge, tailpiece, bottom block and saddle. What remains is a charming aged piece for display and a distinctly wonderful component to use in an assemblage mixed media art piece.
