This bowl was hand thrown with an iron bearing stoneware. White porcelain slip has been brushed on areas as a background and a fine tip on the end of a squeeze bottle was used to create each petal and the details of the blossoms. A high gloss glaze applied over the slip decoration creates a textual dynamic with the stoneware areas left unglazed . The green spiral at the bottom of the bowl acts like a whirlpool to draw in the fallen petals.
This 3 3/4" X 6" bowl was made with the Japanese Tea Ceremony in mind, but it can be used for any food or as a decorative piece.
