The famed ruby slippers were supposed to be silver!

Those who've read the classic book the movie is based on will tell you technology killed reality. The 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz" took creative liberties with Technicolor. Before its inception, movie goers could only view films in black and white. Technicolor changed the way audiences viewed things, bringing vivid color to film.

Frank L. Baum, author of the children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", from which the movie was based, had intended for the slippers to be silver. However, in traditional black and white film, the color silver doesn't add any pizzazz. And the director of the beloved movie wanted to take full advantage of Technicolor. Thus, just for the film, the shoes were made ruby...forever changing history.

This bookmark hearkens to the original. The way the slippers were meant to be, glittery silver. Lifted from the pages of Baum's novel is a line spoken by a Munchkin:

"The Witch of the East was proud of those silver shoes and there is some charm connected with them; but what it is we never knew."

The text is set upon the background of a withered and worn leather-colored background.

Bookmark is laminated, perfectly durable and meant to last for many years. Part of the charm of my handcrafted creations is the slightly rugged edges of the double-thick cardstock. The witch's legs are made from carefully crafted polymer clay. No molds used and no paint applied.

Since each is handmade, the length of the legs vary in length (averaging 1 to 1 1/2 inches). The bookmark itself measures 6 inches long. Total length: 7 to 7 1/2 inches long...perfect for any book!
