This is a collaboration work for Jardin Mecanique , a Steampunk / Victorian Post apocalyptic Opera Rock Band from Montreal . Veronique Paquette made the illustrations of each characters of the story played by the musician and i incorporated them in my Jewelry designs .
Under the flickering light of a rusty old candelabra, three feverish souls are turning pages. One of them holds ''Le Dictionnaire de l'Étrange'', another one glances through ''Magick'' from the occultist Aleister Crowley and the last one is looking at ''Fleurs du Mal'' from Charles Baudelaire. After a short while, the triad will come up with the name that'll shout for it. Two words come together on an old looking piece of paper splatered by a virulent brainstorm: ''Jardin'' and ''Mécanique''. ...eyes are connecting... That music in which violence meets romance, in which smiles have teeth and tears are freezing ... Music that flourishes under the light of creativity and that is built with a military precision. From that moment on, that music was going to be ''Jardin Mécanique's'' music.
They have one thing on their minds: break through their own limitations. Each of them is a singer, a composer, a multi-instrumentalist and has a particular interest in cinema. On top of it, some of them know how to play with words while others know their way around the visual part, or the sound engineering part of the work. All of this orchestrated in a deadly efficient manner.
After numerous years constructing and building the concept of their show, Philippe Coulombe, Francis Gagnon and Sylvain Sicard de Carufel will put on a audacious production. A musical and theatrical concert in which the three performers will be the actors, singers and instrumentalists at the same time.
It is somewhere in between the standard rock concert and the rock opera formula that a mysterious event will give birth to the first ''Jardin Mécanique'' concert called: ''La Sinistre Histoire du Théâtre Tintamarre'' as well as an album wearing the same name.
Even if ''Jardin Mécanique's'' basics and general sound is rather rock, its music is beaming through a lot of different influences like a stunning cameleon that wears opposite colors without renouncing its proper identity. Although the beast bleeds a little Chopin, Tchaikovsky or Shostakovitch, it may also evoke the soundtracks of the darkest Tim Burton movies. A waltz giving birth to a military march glued together in a torrent of vocal harmonies and such radical change of styles is a frequent sight in ''Jardin Mécanique's'' world. As for the lyrics, they borrow a bit of cleverness from history's most talented writers.
''Jardin Mécanique'' is now ready to set stages on fire all over the province of Québec in a prelude to invading Europe.
