This unit works on a very high efficiency amplifier powering two Kicker 3.5" full range coaxial speakers. The battery on this unit is a rechargeable 7200mAh Lithium Ion battery, this piece can run for a very, very long time on a single charge. I have tested it with a 4th Generation iPod Touch, having Bluetooth and WIFI disabled, and locking the screen while the music was playing, it ran for an astounding 18 hours straight at half volume (comfortable listening volume). I know of no other portable music player than can come anywhere close to that amount of run time.
This piece also has the ability to charge your iPhone or iPod while docked and playing music. An additional cord can be purchased (dock cable extension) that will allow this to charge your iPad as well as play the music from it. As seen in the video below, a cable is included to allow you to plug any device into this unit that has a 3.5mm headphone jack, therefore making the connection possibilities nearly endless in number.
This unit is compatible with all iPhones, iPod Touches and iPod Nanos. It should also work with the iPod Classic but I have not had an opportunity to confirm that. This piece currently has the 30 pin dock connector in it but can easily be retrofitted to the new "Lighting" connector Apple has introduced. If need be I could also make this interchangeable between the two connectors so you could dock an older iPod and switch bases to use a new iPhone for instance. Just let me know before purchase.
