The inspiration for this box was my son's favorite book when he was a toddler, Good Night Moon. I remember getting him ready for bed and snuggling up and reading it in the rocking chair.
This ceramic box and the appliques are slip cast ceramic from a mold. The appliques are applied to the box and the box is cleaned to remove blemishes and fired to create a solid piece. The box is then coated with layers of stormy sky glaze, all the while avoiding the appliques. Clear glaze is then applied to the appliques to give it durability and shine.
