The Blessington Basin, found in north inner city Dublin, was once used as the city's water supply at the turn of the 19th century. It then became a distillery for local Jamesons and Powers whiskey in the 1970s. It was reconstructed in the mid-1990s by the National Heritage council and ALONE (which supports older people in need), it is now a refuge for local birds and is referred to as "the secret garden" by city dwellers as it provides a haven in the middle of bustling city life.
