The compact is shaped like a book and inside has thin tissue like paper leaves which are called "Face Powder Leaves".
The exterior is gold tone metal, with the original gilt gold finish and has a gorgeous decoration of winged gargoyles, a Heraldry shield on the front and an advertisement for the Hotel Seneca on the back.
When closed the book like compact measures 3 1/8 inches high by 2 1/8 in width.
The face leaves compact is in wonderful condition. It appears that one page has been removed, otherwise intact. It comes with the bottom of the original box, but the box has no lid.
This piece would make a rare and wonderful addition to any vanity or collection.
History of the Seneca Hotel:
The Seneca Hotel is located on the corner of Broad Street and Grant, in the Discovery District of downtown Columbus, Ohio. The former hotel was renovated with funds directed by the Ohio State Department of Development and the City of Columbus. The Seneca is a 10 story historic brick building that was designed by architect Frank Packard in 1917.
