This pure copper scarf or shawl pin is one continuous piece of 12 gauge (approximately the thickness of a nickel) copper wire formed into a pin.
Used by the Celts, this pin style has endured over the centuries as a reliable and decorative closure.
Hammered copper, with coils at each end, prevent the pin portion from coming off and holds the fabric securely in place.
I have oxidized and tumbled the copper to a nice finish for a cheerful, organic look. The diameter of the focal pin is approximately 1-1/2 inches. The pin portion measures about 2-1/2 inches (See photo with the coin in it for a better size reference)
I would not recommend using this on tight knit fabrics such as silk due to the size of the pin.
***How to use: Open it by sliding the pin portion around to the small opening by the coils of the ring. Let the pin fall beneath the ring portion, and then pass the pin through the fabric you want to hold in place. Bring the pin back up through the opening by the coils and then rotate it around 90 degrees. The pin should be resting on the top of the ring with the fabric being held securely in place.
