HISTORY: The early Christmas tree ornaments of the 15th century were usually food items. In the early 19th century, glass blowers in Germany began making glass Christmas ornaments, which caught on very quickly and replaced edible ornaments. European immigrants brought the tradition to the US. Most glass ornaments were made in Germany until World War II. After WWII, the Lauscha area of Germany, where most of the ornaments had been made prior to the war, became part of East Germany. However, many of the glass blowers fled to West Germany and were able to smuggle out their traditional molds. Thus after WWII, glass Christmas ornaments were produced again in West Germany.
CONDITION: No cracks. Some possible loss of "silvering" from the inside. See photos.
