A beautiful and elegant antique Singer sewing machine from the Gilded Era, decorated with ornate gold floral decals and the lovely curved "fiddle" base. She's set in her original Singer tiger oak treadle cabinet with 7 drawers carved in the "Memphis" style, and includes the matching "coffin top" machine cover.
The sewing mechanism is the vibrating shuttle (VS) that uses long, narrow bobbins (not the round bobbin typical of all later machines).
This is a fine older sewing machine, brought back to her original beauty with lots of TLC. The antique Singer fiddlebase sewing machines are becoming harder to find in good condition. The decals on this machine are intact, with some wear along the left edge and other small spots, but for 122 years old, this machine looks great! The cast iron head has not deteriorated. Silver parts are bright and clean, in overall very good condition; the rear slide plate has minor pitting, the front one has some discoloration. All working parts are clean and run smoothly.
WAITING TO SEW! She may look delicate but you can sew any type of fabric -- delicate sheers to canvas, using the appropriate needle and thread sizes for your work. The lockstitching is perfect at all stitch lengths. Straight stitching only, no reverse. Low-mounted bobbin winder winds evenly. The machine can accept the old-style Singer attachments, side-mounted.
The tiger oak cabinet is nicely reconditioned with quality stain and furniture oil. It has no cracks or other damage. We had to replace the top wood veneer with matching tiger oak as the original was too sun-damaged to repair.
The original Singer cast-iron treadle stand is in great condition and turns smoothly, we repainted and oiled the metal to preserve the surface from rust.
Serial #10104662, made in 1891
Patented July 19, 1887
Treadle base patented June 4, 1887
