Original anchors of this sort of the era had bound wooden cross bars to aide in having the anchor get a purchase on the ocean floor. This is emphasized by the oxidized lines on the squared cross bar. Centered on the crossbar, also in the naval tattoo tradition is a finely detailed nautical star carved in relief. The entire pieces is high polished with extra care given to keep the lines and bevels that make give this piece the same movement as the traditional images.
