This is an especially lovely subspecies of P. ulysses called "P. ulysses telegonus (Halmahera)". It has elegant blue teardrops on the lower wings, unlike other P. ulysses. These butterflies come from tropical Australia and the surrounding Melanesian islands. This speciman measures approximately 4 inches across.
The black wooden frame measures slightly larger than 8x10", and includes black and white mattes. The outer edge is made from black wood. It is approximately one inch deep, and comes ready to stand upright or hang on your wall.
FYI: Many butterflies in tropical areas come to us from butterfly farms. Buying dried insects helps to save the rainforest, because they are part of a sustainable crop there. They provide a living for the third-world people who farm or catch them, and give those people a motivation (insects=money=food) to preserve the insect population, and thus, their habitat.
Note: You will receive a piece very similar to the pictured item; however, due to the handmade nature of my art, each piece will vary slightly.
