This is a spacious antique doctors bag with lots of character and charm, made with top grain cowhide leather in the 1920's. The Emdee Leather Bag by Schell was the premier choice of doctors at this time and this one has survived to live another day.
The top of the bag opens down the middle with a twist of the brass hardware locking mechanism. The upper half of the bag consists of two side compartments that open and close via snapping buttons on the covers. At the bottom of the leather doctors tote is a large base compartment with plenty of storage room. There is a leather tie strap attached to the side of the bottom of the inside of the bag.
The exterior of the bag is ruggedly worn and shows its age in the corners and edges where the black leather has worn off the top layer and the natural brown leather is beginning to show through. Patent No 2293363 is labeled on the brass hardware by the locking latch knob. The inside of the bag is lined with a light blueish grey vinyl material. The top two compartments have leather straps that button the lid covers closed securely. The inner lining is crackled a bit below the compartments where the top edges fold out. The material is coming up a bit under the drawers in the edges and corners and could be fixed with a little glue.
I took some time to really clean this bag up inside and out so it's ready to handle and ready to store whatever you need to tote around.
The Emdee by Schell antique leather doctors bag measures 17" L x 8.5" W x 12" H.
