Oregon Sunstone ring in sterling silver. Flare ring.

This sterling silver ring features a 3.8mm steely blue Oregon Sunstone. When viewed from the side, the stone flashes a peachy-orange color (see the Oregon sunstone description about shiller below). The band measures approximately 10mm wide with a slight flare on both sides. The flare makes it a little more interesting while adding comfort. The band is oxidized then brushed, while the tube setting is brought to a glossy shine. This is the style ring I wear everyday. The ring pictured is size 7.

oregon sunstone.

Oregon sunstone is a feldspar mineral found in Lake and Harney Counties where they are dug from soil and underlying lava flows. The gems range in color from water clear through pale yellow, soft pink, and blood red to deep blue and green. Some sunstones appear to be perfectly transparent, but when they are observed from just the right direction, a pink to red metallic shimmer flashes from within the stone. These color variations and the shimmer, called "schiller", are caused by tiny crystals of copper metal contained in varying amounts and sizes within the stones. Oregon is not the only place sunstones are found. Sunstones are found in Norway, Siberia, India and other locations in the United States. But, due to the inclusions of copper that are unique to Oregon these sunstones produce a wide range of spectacular colors.

Oregon sunstone was designated as the Oregon state gemstone in 1987.

The sunstones I acquire range from 7.0-7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.

The Flare Ring in size 7 is ready to ship. However, I can make this ring in different sizes and with different stones. Please note, if you choose Oregon Sunstone they vary in color. I do not have any more in the steely blue color. The remaining stones I have are a peachy color. Please, inquire if you would like to see them.
