My vintage portrait captures an older farming couple in the historic Skagit Valley, Washington. Shown are John and Vera Hedlund, -- he was 89 and she, 83 at the time this portrait was taken over 20 years ago in 1980. The couple is representative of the valley's pioneer heritage... and the last of a then living heritage. They bought their farm during the Depression and worked it until 1976 when they retired. Part of a documentary project concerning the folk and history of the inhabitants of the Skagit Valley. Published in Seattle Sunday magazine - Featured recently by the non-profit www.GrowFood.org

TREASURY ITEM
November 2, 2012-- Appearing in Elizabeth Graf's fine treasury entitled, "Jolly and Spectacular Gifts!" http://www.etsy.com/treasury/NTYyOTY2NHwyNzIzNTEzMzEw/jolly-and-spectacular-gifts
Curated by Elizabeth graf from Elizabeth Graf Fine Art where you will find her colorful and exquisite "story telling" paintings!
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ElizabethGraf
Artist Statement:
I have a HUGE body of work which not only includes paintings, but drawings and photographs. I plan in the future to present prints for sale besides my paintings. I have shown in galleries and art shows but I think I have found my perfect "niche" in Etsy -- selling online allows me the maximum amount of time to tend to my artwork and artist's psyche!
"MY PAINTINGS TELL STORIES" - My GREATEST inspiration in my childhood were the illustrations by John R. Neill for The Wizard of Oz series of books. The black and white drawings danced, flowed, moved out of the page -- so powerful! Other inspirations include "everything tropical", marine life, Chinese/Asian, flowers/plants (scenes from my property) and the look of French Provence linens and their colors -- well, let's just say: EVERYTHING!

Artist Statement:
Painting and experimenting with color has lifted my mood, eased my pain and loss more than any perscription drug ever could.
Since 2005 ive devoted countess hours to studying art & alternative healing. Working through my pain and mobility challenges the last few years i I created a concept to survive ..... Avantageux Art
( ADVANTAGEOUS ) Art for your Health !!
a creative way to surround yourself with healing colors and images done in Acrylic or Oil Paint.
I am a walking testimony that proves our surroundings have a lot to do with how we feel, function and heal as we are emotions and emotions are us. I share with you here all original works of art that promote healing, inspiration, and life changing effects.
My current works of art are inspired from within and by what i see in nature. Each piece is truly an escape as i love to experiment with texture, color and really get my hands dirty (and everything else)! I never know what the finished product is going to look like, i don't have expectations when i start a piece. I do share with my students that what they think is a "mistake" or a "muck up" will end up magically being their best work of art or most praised by others.

Curated by Anna of noblegnome: http://www.etsy.com/people/noblegnome
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Hello there, my name is Anna. I'm so happy you have found my little shop!
I am originally from Sweden but after many years of traveling and living in many different countries, I now simply consider myself a citizen of the earth I walk on. The coast and the mountains of Maine is where my heart resides these days.
So many things inspire me when I create my jewelry but tales of old and the rugged beauty of untouched nature are my greatest influences. I find beauty in the raw and the old, like hammer cut stones, vintage beads, rich patinas developed over time or created by artisan metal workers. My jewelry tends to be primarily rustic looking but a few playful fun pieces always find their way in too.
Aside from making jewelry, I have been drawing and painting since the day I was born and hope to soon again be able to fill my other shop (which is now depressingly empty) with original oil paintings
