*This modern, abstract, fused glass suncatcher is 6.5".
*I hung it from from a thin steel chain that is looped through the ring.
*This piece looks beautiful hanging in a window where it will catch the light and send color across the room, or as a wall hanging.
I designed and made the mold for this piece. The simple and elegant shape is very versatile and conducive to many of my suncatcher designs.
I cast this piece in the mold, using crushed glass called frit. The depth of color and intricacy of design is achieved through layering color and multiple kiln-firings.
The intricate, mandala-esque pattern that comes across the right side I painted on and fused into the glass.
In this piece I wanted to depict variations in texture and form, that contrast and work well together. Repeating around the ring I made a pattern of three wide, wavy, mottled, translucent lines separated by three, semi-opaque, thin, wobbly lines of similar color. Over the surface I painted a pathway of intricate line-patterns, set off-center to the piece, but symmetrical to itself, bracketed within one of the sets of the internal pattern.
