This large beaded bead is a study in the symmetry of a cube and an octahedron. I wove a layer of crystal, then another layer of blue, purple, and red gemstones, and then outlined the gems with shiny and matte gold and brown seed beads. The beaded bead is hollow with holes running through each of the six 4-pointed stars. It is strung with a really long piece of burgundy twisted cord, but could instead be used as a focus for a larger beaded necklace.
The faceted bead are all gemstones, including ruby, purple and blue spinel, purple amethyst, and red garnet. I painstakingly re-drilled all the of the holes in the gemstones to make them large enough for weaving. Hidden on the inside are rock crystal quartz beads. The seed beads are metal and glass, including high quality metal coated glass seed beads. Although the piece has a nice springiness about it, the thread work is heavily reinforced to last for decades.
Nearly 27mm from point to point, this piece is a nice large beaded bead. It would also make a nice hanging ornament or computer art for your desk to gaze at while you pause to think about the meaning of life and your place in the universe.
