You don't have to be a wild life lover to appreciate this little soft sculpture of a Marten. Beautifully done in all wool. A sweet little face to peek out at you and bring a smile to your face. This little guy has an awesome bushy tail to add to his good looks. An amazing piece of art!
Marten are a member of the Mustelid family (Mustelidae), otherwise known as the weasel family. Other members of this group include the weasel, mink, ferret, otter, skunk and wolverine.
They can be distinguished from similar members of the weasel family by an orange throat patch and dark brown fur, with lighter fur around the head and face.
The body is long and slender for ease of reaching prey in crevices and narrow areas. Scent glands are found on the abdomen and under the tail. Marten will use these scent glands to mark their large territories.
This Marten measures 12 inches from the tip of his nose to the end of his bushy tail. He is 2 1/4 inches across the chest. I avoided making this a micro mini piece because the Marten has so much to see. From his beautiful coat of fur, very expressive face, to his very bush tail. It takes many hours to bring out the beauty of this wildlife creature.
